FOUNDATIONS OF ENGLISH I (EN1001)
These courses are designed for students who demonstrate a need for more intensified instruction in the area of language development. Skills in the areas of grammar, writing and reading are reinforced. ENGLISH I (EN1101)
English I focuses on a study of the language. Students read a variety of literary genres from American, British, and World Literature and use the writing process to practice paragraph development, organization, and usage. Course requirements include research activities and independent readings. TOP
ENGLISH I COLLEGE PREP (EN1201)
English I College Prep provides students with a foundation of standards to interpret and to appreciate literary genres in American, British, and world literature. Writing and vocabulary activities are literature-based. Course requirements include the research paper and independent readings. TOP
ENGLISH I HONORS (EN1301)
English I Honors is designed to provide an overview of literary genres that is commensurate with the students’ interests and maturity levels. Students will be expected to develop and apply higher level reading and thinking skills to the interpretation of literature, in order to familiarize them with literature as it relates to the development of language and composition. Acceptance into this program is based on academic records and teacher recommendation. The completion of a research paper is a course requirement. Students will also demonstrate an understanding of four novels assigned for independent reading. TOP

English II is the study of American literature. In this course, students practice and differentiate between descriptive, narrative, expository, and persuasive writing. Course requirements include research and independent readings. TOP
ENGLISH II COLLEGE PREP (EN1202)
English II College Prep is the chronological study of American literature. Students analyze and practice writing descriptive, narrative, expository, and persuasive essays. Course requirements include the research paper and independent readings. TOP
ENGLISH II HONORS (EN1302)
English II Honors is an in-depth study of American literature. Critical thinking and communication skills are emphasized. Students analyze and practice writing descriptive, narrative, expository, and persuasive essays. Course requirements include the research paper and independent readings. English III focuses on the development of communications skills required for the workplace. Contemporary readings and selections from British literature are included. A research project is required. TOP

College English III is the study of British literature. Emphasis is on the development of effective communication skills and the ability to analyze and to interpret literature. Course requirements include the research paper and independent readings. TOP

Honors English III is an in depth study of British literature. Emphasis is on the analytical approach to literature and the refinements of communication and thinking skills. Course requirements include research paper and independent readings. Acceptance into this program is based on academic performance and teacher recommendation. TOP

ENGLISH IV HONORS (EN1304)
English IV Honors is designed to provide the student with an overview of World Literature from a chronological perspective. A philosophy unit allows the addition of philosophy to the historical component of the course. Emphasis is placed on the analytical and evaluative approach as it relates to the refinement of language, composition and thinking skills. A thesis and extensive bibliography is a course requirement. Acceptance into this program is based upon academic records and teacher recommendation. A research paper is a course requirement. Students are also expected to demonstrate an understanding of four novels assigned for independent outside reading. TOP
BUSINESS ENGLISH (EN1004)
This course is designed for those students whose individual evaluation has determined the need for more intensified instruction in the area of communication skills for on-the-job competence. Students will have successfully passed the courses in Foundation of English and Communication Skills. The student’s individual education plan will determine the level of instruction and the goals for successful completion of the course. The focus will be on developing communication skills in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This course is by teacher recommendation only. TOP
